Introduction to Indian Food, with Guest Teacher Astha


Turnip the Heat Cooking is thrilled to welcome a guest teacher to our mix, welcome Astha! Astha brings an expertise about Indian Cooking to our classes.

In this class, Astha will teach students how to make classic and variations of paratha (a delicious bread treat), as well as a creamy, vegetable rich dip called raita.

This class is perfect for students 8-12 years old.



Meet Astha: Born and raised in New Delhi, ┬ácoming from a family of cooks and food lovers Astha’s interest in cooking was inevitable. She remembers watching her parents try new recipes every week and cook for the extended family during religious festivals where she also got a chance to help and learn from them. She moved to the states as a grad student in 2006 with no family here and that’s when she started cooking full meals and delicacies to satisfy her authentic Indian food cravings. Her cooking soon expanded to cooking for parties for her friends and slowly introducing people to “real” Indian food which is easy, wholesome and healthy became her ultimate goal.

Being a new mom Astha is excited to share her recipes with kids because she knows how important it is that we instill a culture of cooking a meal at home in our kids.
